Connectivisim

New Technology Supporting Informal Learning

Stephen Downes
I really like the term Personal Learning Environments in this article and its relation to connectivism. I feel we all learn in terms of what we are most interested in and what better way than to form a social network of simialr interested learners. Whether its called self-directed learning, learner autonomy, informal learning the key word is that its learning. Downes talks about variables in the learning envrionment and how they impact all phases of the learning cycle. I agree that the change in technology is what drives the change in those variables and what better way to address those variables than by allowing technology help along the way. Personal Learning Environments are systems that help learners take control of and manage their own learning which in current learning environments is pointing towards connectivism. One big reason this is emerging is the use of social media networking.
